SOME ALTERNATIVE ROUTES FOR THE INDEPENDENT TRAVELER
(Get me off the interstate - I want scenery!)

From New York and North/Central New Jersey
Suggestion #1 - Enter the state on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and exit at Valley Forge Exit 326. Follow signs to 202 South and follow for about 10 miles. Exit at Frazer Rt. 30 exit and bear left at the split to US Route 30 West towards Downingtown/Coatesville. Another 10 miles will bring you to Route 340 exit. From the exit, it is about 20 miles to Intercourse on a two lane road through farmland and small towns. This is one of the first roads to Lancaster and was called the Old Kings Highway. With a little imagination, you can see remnants of old farms and taverns. This is a mostly rural route and basically you will see beautiful farms and farmlands on your journey.

Suggestion #2 - Enter the state on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and exit at Morgantown Exit 298. Turn left onto Route 23 West and go less than a mile to a left turn on Route 10. From this point it is 20 miles to Intercourse. Go ten miles to the second traffic light and turn right onto Route 340. Another 10 miles brings you to our town. This also is a two lane rural route. Beautiful farmland and vistas.

Suggestion #3 - Enter the state on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and exit at Morgantown Exit 298. Turn left onto Route 23 and travel 12 miles of some of the most scenic road in Lancaster County. Turn left onto Route 897. (Shady Maple Smorgasbord is on your right. If you are hungry, they have great food. There also is a store there that the locals fondly call the Mennonite Mall. It is called Good’s Store and is an old fashioned country department store of sorts. Lots of fun to explore.) Go less than a mile to the next intersection. Turn left and then a 100 feet or so immediately turn right. You are still on Route 897. Another 9-10 miles brings you to Route 340 where you turn right and are 7 miles from Intercourse.

From Baltimore, Washington DC and Virginia
Suggestion #1 - From the Baltimore beltway merge onto I-95N via exit number 33B - on the left - towards New York. It is approximately 30 miles to the Exit #93 - MD-22 exit toward Perryville/Port Deposit. Go .2 mile to MD-275/Perrylawn Drive. Continue 2.7 miles and turn right onto MD-276 Jacob Tome Highway. Go 5 miles and turn right onto Route 1 North. Continue 10 miles and exit at Rt. 10. (The Herr’s Potato Chip Plant is located at Route 272 in the middle of this 10 mile stretch.) Take Route 10 towards Oxford for 2 miles and turn left onto Rt. 896. You will continue for approximately 20 miles through some of the finest country side in Lancaster County. Cross over Route 30 and this road ends on Route 340. Turn right and it is 5 miles to Intercourse.

** The most important thing for folks to know is that we do not look like a factory. Shops are built around our factory. Look for the large sign Cross Keys with the number 3614 **
