Why does a pretzel factory sell herbs and spices? It started as a mistake.

We have always had a sugar and spice soft pretzel that gets rave reviews for its cinnamon flavor. We buy a 2% cinnamon that is more potent than grocery store cinnamon. One day I accidentally ordered a 100 barrel of cinnamon instead of a 16 pound box. Some one had already opened the barrel so I packed containers for the store to see if I could sell it. We now buy several barrels a year and have slowly expanded our herb and spice offering to what you find here today. The herbs are all fresh and top quality. The price is low because we buy in bulk and repack.

Horseradish Powder – Add to dips, sauces and salad dressings. It is best in cold items. Add to hot dishes only before serving. Heat kills the heat in the horseradish. Mix 1 part horseradish powder to 1-1/2 part water for a sauce. My favorite – spread on meatloaf as you remove from oven – YUM!

 No Salt Herbal Seasoning – This mixture contains sesame seeds, onion, basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme and garlic. Try this on fish and vegetables. Scant 1 cup
103073  No Salt Lemon Pepper Seasoning Blend – Similar to a Mrs. Dash blend, it is pretty good. If I can’t have salt, bring on the pepper. 1 cup
808395  Marjoram – I think of this as a sweet version of oregano. It is milder and works well with all kinds of meat. Generally used with Italian dishes also. Scant 3/4 cup

wholenutmeg  Whole Nutmeg – This little nut is filled with tiny nooks and crannies of flavor. Use a rasp or grater to shave the nut. Let the nutmeg lay on the counter and you will smell it for a couple of days. The next time you shave the nut, the flavor is just as fresh and strong. When I am down to just a small piece left, I throw it in a pan with some orange peels and a bit of water and maybe a cinnamon stick. Keep the pan on low and add water every now and then and enjoy the aroma. Approximately 10 nuts
 Onion – minced – Handy when you are out of fresh onion. Add to soups, stews, marinades and sauces.

 Rubs – Montana Steak Seasoning – You can marinate your steak first; but, I prefer to sprinkle it on the steak or chicken 10-15 minutes before cooking. At the end of cooking, finish with a bit of fresh lemon juice. Nice peppery blend. 1/2 cup

 Salt – Sea – This salt is literally from the sea. Sea water evaporates and salt is left. Our salt is from San Francisco. Each source of sea salt tastes differently. Ours is a very finely milled salt. 1-1/2 Cup
 Salt – Apple Wood Smoked – Add your favored herbs to this salt and rub on chicken, pork or fish. Marinate 1 hour and bake, broil or sauté.
 Salt – Apple Hickory Smoked – Add your favorite herbs to this flavored salt and rub on chicken, pork or fish. After 1 hour, you can bake, broil or sauté.
 Savory – Best description is a bit peppery with a minty thyme undertone. Fish, vegetables, cheese and egg dishes can all be perked up with a bit of savory. My favorite is fresh sautéed green beans. I mix thyme, sage and savory in butter and put under the skin on a roast turkey. YUM!

zaatar  Zaatar Mediterranean Spice Blend – A Mediterranean blend found on flat breads and in dips. Thyme, sesame seeds, marjoram and oregano are components of this blend. Try on steamed vegetables also. 1/3 Cup
